Badger

Badger is our adorable, friendly boy with a difference.  Badger was dumped on the street by his original owner, when he was just a 5 week old pup, because of his differences. We believe he is a pure-bred Alabai (Central Asian Shepherd Dog).  Badger was very vulnerable on the streets due to his splayed front legs and his friendliness. Even at his young age, he loved people which made him at high-risk of getting caught by the evil dog catchers, or generally abused.

The vets in Baku have been unable to do anything for his legs and we were advised that this was due to elbow shortening. This does not seem to affect his quality of life and he is an active boy.

Badger was in emergency foster care for the first few weeks to ensure he got the medical treatment and good quality food he needed, however, due to the lack of foster homes in Baku, we had to move him to the kennels.

Badger is always delighted to see our volunteers and loves playing with our other dogs. He absolutely adores people.  Don’t let this guy’s disabilities fool you – Badger is 100% capable. Our volunteers have watched him run, play, hump, and eat like there is no tomorrow.  With other dogs, he is very energetic and plays with any and all.  One-on-one with humans, he’s a cuddle bug who just wants to snuggle beside you for affection.  Always smiling and happy and generally loving every minute of life when he is out in the sun and around other dogs/humans.  Badger is an unique guy with a very big heart.

Badger shares a kennel with Raisin, and we have observed he is slightly food dominant when he doesn’t think there is enough, but overall, the two have not had any real issues together.  Badger has not been thoroughly tested with children however, he has behaved very well with young visitors (age 9 and up).  Badger is not currently house-trained however, like most street dogs, he is a clever boy, and will most definitely learn quickly.

Badger has waited so long to find his forever home, through COVID international travel restrictions and then the CDC ban, and is so ready to spring a flight to Canada or Europe and find his happily ever after family.
